Apple announces iPhone 5

Wednesday, September 12, 2012

Today held a lot of new information from the Cupertino Giant known as Apple. The new iPhone was definitely the focus of the event! Now, they didn't hit it off on the same road as 'The new iPad', though that appears to be how they'll write it from now on, they called this new iPhone the iPhone 5. With a larger screen, an updated processor, and more, this is definitely a product that many of us have been anticipating.

Not only does the iPhone 5 have beefed up specs, it also now holds a beautiful (not so prestine) 4G module. Now iPhone users can take advantage of the new networks that Verizon, AT&T, and several other carriers have set up. Giving you up to 100mbps in data speeds, LTE (4G) is the fastest cellular network out there!

For the screen real estate junkies, the iPhone's screen is larger. How much larger? 0.5 inches larger. The width did not change, just the height, giving it that nice 16:9 ratio that we long for making YouTube, movies, and any other media content you may experience...fit just right.

Being 18% thinner, 20% lighter, and having 12% less volume must be something impressive, considering the increase in height and screen size. Apple's engineers must have spent many hours of the day just rethinking and rethinking the iPhone.

Just like the iPhone 4S, the iPhone 5 features an 8MP iSight camera with a new panorama mode for those brilliant and beautiful landscape shots. With 44 percent more color saturation in the 4-inch retina display, pictures will look better than ever.

With beefed up specs, like the all-new A6 chip and the even more powerful battery, the new iPhone gives you 10 hours of video playback, 8 hours of talk time as well as 8 hours of LTE web browsing! The A6 processor chip gives you device speeds and graphics performance of up to twice as fast as it's predecessor, the iPhone 4S.

The internals may have gotten a nice update, but so have the externals. With the brand spankin' new 'Lightning' connector, signals are all digital all the time. Another thing, it's reversible! No more spinning your connector only to find out you had it facing the right way the first time.

To wrap it all up, the iPhone's new design features one color for the front and side as well as a two-toned backing. The iPhone 5 will be available in both black and white, as well as three different memory capacities: 16, 32 and 64 gigabytes.

The pricing is currently unavailable on the Apple website, although at the keynote, the prices were set at $699 for the 16GB model, $799 for the 32 and $899 for the 64GB model. That's a pretty hefty penny to pay for a cellphone that's going to be last year's news in a year when they release the iPhone 6 or 5S. Currently, the iPhone 5 is unavailable for pre-order but will be in two days on September 14th, 2012 here.

That's all for now folks! Stay tuned!
